Our lead guides are Juan Quispe Calcina and Lisa McClendon Sims. Juan is from the Q’ero Nation, the last independent community of the Inka in Peru. Juan’s village is at over 14,000 feet above sea level where his ancestors have survived for over 500 years as potato farmers and alpaca herders, and are known for maintaining the purest Inkan culture and practices than any other tradition. Juan is a “Pampamisayoq”, an Andean Priest. He is an “ukuku” a title earned through the Q’ollyur’iti festival, as a keeper of the Living Energy and policing body of this important annual festival.
Lisa was born in the United States and has lived permanently in Cusco since 2011. Lisa is a Paqo, Chakaruna and Pampamisayoq in the Andean tradition, a Fourth Level initiate of the Hatun Karpay by Elizabeth Jenkins and Juan Nuñez del Prado. Trekking/hiking is an important part of the experience. On the Quest, we have three hikes to Pumamarca (1.5 hours/6KM), Machu Picchu (3 hours/3.2KM) and Ausangate Cocha (3 hours / 7KM). On two of the hikes we will reach above 11,000 feet in elevation, with the ascent requiring 1,650 ft of climbing. If you cannot do any of these hikes, this likely is not the best trip for you. However, if you want to take a break from one of the hikes, we can arrange optional tours or rest at the hotel.

Major credit cards are widely accepted at most locations in Peru. Please note that transactions charged in Peruvian Soles may incur a currency transaction fee from your bank. Most establishments can charge in US Dollars as well. It is recommended to also have small, petty cash with you for local vendors, artisans and market purchases. Money exchange should be avoided at all airports due to the low exchange rate. We will suggest the best places to exchange money once on the ground.
-
We advise you to check with your cell phone provider to see if you can have reasonably priced international service in Peru. If you need a SIM card, then it’s provided as part of your Quest.
